MetroFibre Brings High-Speed Fibre Connectivity Closer to Home with Fifth Experience Store Launch in Steeledale

Fibre network operator continues commitment to bridging the digital divide in underserved communities across South Africa

MetroFibre Networx has opened its fifth Fibre Experience store in Steeledale, South of Johannesburg, marking another significant milestone in the company’s mission to make high-speed fibre connectivity accessible to underserved communities.

The new Steeledale store opened on 25 July 2025 joins MetroFibre’s growing network of community-focused Experience stores, following successful launches in Thembisa (Gauteng), New Brighton and Zwide (Gqeberha, Eastern Cape), and Riverside View (Gauteng). These strategic locations demonstrate MetroFibre’s unwavering commitment to serving underserved markets and bringing world-class fibre connectivity directly to the communities that need it most, and who traditionally relied on expensive mobile data solutions.

“We believe that fast, reliable fibre internet should be available to everyone,” says Lebang Mosimanegape, Business Owner: Emerging Markets at MetroFibre. “Our Experience stores represent more than just retail outlets – they’re community hubs that bridge the digital divide and open doors to educational, employment, and entrepreneurial opportunities that were previously out of reach.”

Transforming Communities Through Connectivity

MetroFibre’s network expansion has already made a tangible impact, with infrastructure now passing over 75,000 homes across these five key areas. Impressively, more than 20% of these homes have already embraced fibre connectivity, demonstrating the strong appetite for affordable, high-speed fibre connectivity and solution to costly and restrictive mobile data.

“The Steeledale Experience store offers residents a welcoming space to discover the transformative power of fibre internet. Community members can test Wi-Fi speeds firsthand, explore various service packages, receive technical support, and access free Wi-Fi during load shedding or network outages – ensuring they stay connected when they need it most,” adds Lebang.

Understanding that different families have different connectivity needs and budgets, MetroFibre offers flexible options from month-to-month fibre-to-the-home packages available at various speed tiers, to its MetroConnect prepaid solution – a pay-as-you-go 20Mbps symmetrical service that eliminates lengthy contracts and commitment concerns.

“The demand for stable, affordable fibre internet is growing rapidly as families recognise the significant cost savings and super-fast speeds” explains Lebang. “Fibre delivers uncapped and unlimited connectivity that can simultaneously support multiple family members and devices – from online schooling and remote work to entertainment and staying connected with loved ones.”

True to its community-first philosophy, MetroFibre recruits Experience store employees from the local area, creating valuable job opportunities while ensuring customers receive service from people who understand their specific needs and challenges.

The Steeledale Experience Store is located at 9 Linroy Street, Steeledale, and operates weekdays from 10:00 to 19:00, and weekends and public holidays from 09:00 to 16:00.

MetroFibre’s expansion into underserved markets reflects a broader commitment to digital inclusion and economic empowerment. By providing reliable, high-speed connectivity, the company enables access to essential online services, educational resources, remote work opportunities, and digital entrepreneurship platforms that are increasingly vital in today’s connected world.

“Every new connection represents a family or business gaining access to opportunities that can change their trajectory. We’re not just laying fibre – we’re laying the foundation for stronger, more connected communities,” concludes Lebang.
